Bethel Souligne Utter

Bethel Souligne Utter, 92, of Fowler, passed away peacefully August 24, 2024 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette. Bethel was born June 13, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Rupert and Stella Hill. She married Robert Souligne February 7th, 1953 who preceded her in death on January 16, 1981. She then married Donald Utter February 27, 1988 and preceded her in death on November 29, 2018.

Bethel was a 1950 graduate of Otterbein High School. She enjoyed staying at home raising her family and being a homemaker. She lived and worked on the family farm for over 65 years, gardening, canning, and fixing meals to take to the field. She enjoyed camping, sewing, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her family. She especially loved visiting the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and holding all of the new babies in the family.

She was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fowler and was a long-time member of the Saint Ann Society and study club group. She also enjoyed her time with the Lamplighters Home Ec. ladies.

Bethel is survived by her children Sue (Steve) Highland, Lafayette, IN; Marcia (Henry) Jackson Roann, IN; Jim (Trudi) Souligne, Fowler, IN; Mike (Suzanne) Souligne, Oxford, IN; daughter in-law, Kris Souligne, stepdaughter Sandy (Bob) Oden, Baton Rouge, LA; and stepson Roger Utter, Aiken, SC. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Bethel was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Rosalie Gould, and son, Andrew Souligne, who passed away March 28, 2018.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fowler, Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 10:00 am with interment to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Fowler with Fr. Sean Aaron officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fowler Community Center or a charity of your choice.
