David Eugene Eighnor, age 77, of Brook, IN passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Regency Hospital of Northwest Indiana within St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, IN. David was born on February 28, 1948 in Watseka, IL to the late Robert B. and Mary Ellen (Griffith) Eighnor. He was raised by his loving grandparents Henry and Bessie Hartman and by his Uncle Everett “Uncle Ebb” and Aunt Elizabeth “Aunt Ma”, who lovingly cared for David in his youth, whose influence was never forgotten. For the past year, David was living in East Chicago, IN with his cousin, Candy and her husband Patrick Piessens who had lovingly cared for him during his declining health.
On July 17, 1971, in the United Church of Morocco in Morocco, IN, David married Linda Thurston; she preceded him in death. David served in the Army Corp of Engineers from 1968 to 1970. He deployed to Vietnam and served as a “tunnel rat.” David had worked for Northway Products in Rensselaer, IN for twenty-two years. He was a member of the United Church of Morocco and served faithfully as a deacon; he was recently elevated to deacon emeritus. The church members had become his family; he loved and cherished each one.
David is survived by: cousins, Denny (Haley) Eighnor of Quincy, IL, Linda (Perry) Rentfro of Mode, IL, and Candy (Patrick) Piessens of East Chicago, IN; a sister-in-law, Patricia McKee and her children Tamara (Dale) Savidge, Jera (James) Phillips, Mike (Cindy) McKee, Montgomery (Kathy) McKee; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by; his wife, Linda Eighnor; his parents, Robert B. and Mary Ellen (Griffith) Eighnor; brother, Daniel Eighnor; three uncles, Elmer, Lawerence, Everett Eighnor; Aunt, Elizabeth Eighnor; grandparents, Henry and Bessie Hartman.
Visitation will be from 10:00AM-12:00PM (CDT) with a funeral service to follow at 12:00PM (CDT) with Pastor Patrick Goodwein officiating on Friday, March 14, 2025 at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco, IN with military honors.
