Janet Willhite, 68, of Goodland, Indiana passed away peacefully Friday, October 18th in the comfort of her home and with her family.
Janet was born September 13th, 1956 in Watseka, Illinois to the late William “Bill” and Eileen (Davis) Woods of Brook, IN, and was raised on the family farm. She graduated from South Newton High School in 1974 and went on to receive a B.S. in Textiles and Clothing from Indiana State University in 1978. After graduating college, she began her professional life in Lafayette and briefly in Springfield, IL in multiple office and retail capacities before ultimately becoming the owner of Dorothy’s Bridal in Lafayette. Assisting brides-to-be is what would ultimately lead to her own nuptials as she married James “Randy” Willhite on July 29th, 1989. After establishing her family, Janet found a passion for teaching and taught in multiple capacities for 15 years.
Janet was always working on a craft project and enjoyed cooking meals and hosting family gatherings. She was heavily invested in the community working with the 4-H club and the Goodland library board. Anyone needing a good seamstress in a pinch could call on Janet for any needs they had. Janet would always fill any need she saw one way or another.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Randy Willhite of Goodland; daughter, Lauren (Eric) Donohue of Williamsport; son, Zachary Willhite of Bloomington; grandchildren, Madilyn, Samuel, Claire, and Connor Donohue; sisters, Judy Hancock of Brook and Jo Whaley of Cape Coral, FL; brother, Jim (Nan) Woods of Ponte Vedra, FL; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and several cousins.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Richard “Dick” Hancock and George “Wendell” Whaley.
Visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. (CST) at the funeral home. Funeral service will be Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. (CST) funeral home with Rick Gerts officiating. Janet will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Brook following funeral services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either the Mount Zion United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 351 Kentland, IN 47951 or the Victorious Life Assembly of God located at 13754 S. 1080 W. in Goodland, IN 47948.
