Lee J Hall

October 14, 1969 — October 2, 2022

Oxford, Indiana

Lee J Hall, 52, of Oxford, Indiana, passed away with his wife and daughter on Sunday, October 2, 2022 in Indianola, Illinois.

Lee J was born on October 14, 1969 in Lafayette, Indiana to Lloyd and Carolyn Hall. Lee was the oldest sibling of 5. His siblings are Clint Hall, Andrew Hall, Tonia (Hall) Hoskins, and Tammy (Hall) Vanderwall.

Lee J lived his entire life in Benton County, Indiana. Lee attended Fowler Elementary School and graduated from Benton Central Jr. / Sr. High School in 1988. Lee J enjoyed little league baseball, was a boy scout, and in high school was a member of the FFA, Ag, 4-H, and auto mechanics. He was a fierce competitor starting with wrestling during high school. He would completely change his diet and run to make weight in the 98-102 weight class. As a child, his nickname was “Putt” because he would push toy tractors around and make the “putt putt putt” sound of a hit and miss style John Deere.

Lee had many jobs growing up. He mowed yards, ran the melon route with Big Steve Stevenson, delivered the spirit paper to Fowler, and was a groundskeeper at Purdue, Napa Autoparts. Lee J was offered an opportunity with Bussie Holscher and went on to work for Holscher Products, where he was the full-time 1st employee and has been employed there almost 36 years.

Lee J started racing in 1989. He built a race car out of a Nova with his best friends, Scott Wallpe and Neil Groen, and the #90 was back alive. This was his father’s race car number. He raced at Henry’s Speedway then. The love of racing was inspired by his father and uncles. He raced at several tracks across Indiana and Illinois. At Henry’s Speedway in Chase, Indiana was where Lee J met the love of his life, Felisha Jean (Buyno) Hall. These two became inseparable from the start. Felisha came to every race cheering him on. Lee and Felisha were married on June 26, 1999 at Benton County Speedway during intermission. Lee J went on to win the Feature race that night. Lee and Felisha welcomed their son, Lee Joseph Hall, into the world on January 21, 2000. They welcomed their beautiful daughter, Madison Grace Hall, on May 9, 2004. This completed their race team. The 4 traveled everywhere together going to races, FFA events, 4-H fairs, and visiting family and friends. Lee and Felisha had a forever kind of love. Lee J’s loves were his wife, his two children, grandchild, and racing a stock car.

Lee J had over 130 feature wins and 15 track championships across 2 states. Lee J raced both asphalt and dirt cars. He raced at Kankakee Speedway, Kokomo Speedway, Charleston Speedway, Plymouth Speedway, Fairbury Speedway, Farmer City Speedway, Illiana Speedway, South Lake Speedway, Shadyhill Speedway, Hartford City Speedway, Salem Speedway, Montpelier Speedway, Lincoln Park Speedway, Macon Speedway, and of course the hometown track that changed names several times - Henry’s / Benton County Speedway. Lee also got the opportunity to run hot laps at Chicagoland Speedway. Twice, Lee J raced a vintage sprint car. Lee J was blessed to race with his brothers, Clint & Andy, his sister, Tonia, his son, Lee Joseph, his brothers-in-law, Jerrad Krick, Joe Buyno, Jonah Buyno, & James Buyno, in the later years of racing. Racing is a Hall Family way of life.

Remember Lee J by his motto “Do what you love because you only get one life”. When the race cars fire up on Saturday nights to turn laps, remember him. Race ‘em clean and shake their hand when they beat you on the track so you're friends off the track. Lee J has taken the checkered flag and his race is over.

Lee J is survived by his son, Lee Joseph (Erin) Hall; granddaughter, Willow Grace Hall; father, Lloyd Hall; brothers, Clint (Shilho) Hall and Andrew (Colleen) Hall; sisters, Tonia Hall Hoskins and Tammy (Keil) Vanderwall; father-in-law, Joseph Buyno; mother-in-law, Brenda Cross; brothers-in-law, Joey (Brittany) Buyno, Jonah (Amanda) Buyno, and James Buyno; sisters-in-laws, Julie (David) Ortiz and Andrea (Jerrad) Krick. He is survived by many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, great friends, the racing community, and all #90 race fans. Lee J had many best friends including Kevin Kozloski, Scott Wallpe, Neil Groen, Brandon Bell, and Andrew Kawlewski along with his wife.

Lee J passed away at the same time as his wife, Felisha (Buyno) Hall, and daughter, Madison Grace Hall. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Jean (Coy) Hall, grandparents, and several uncles and aunts.

Visitation for Lee J, Felisha, and Madison Hall will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5pm (EST) until 8pm (EST) at the Fowler United Methodist Church in Fowler, Indiana. The funeral service will be held at 12pm (EST) on Saturday, October 8th at the church with interment to follow at Goodland Cemetery in Goodland, Indiana.
