Louisa d'Andelot (Rasmussen) Nelson

Louisa Nelson, 85, of Fowler, passed away in Clinton House Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Frankfort, IN, in the early morning hours of December 4, 2022.  Clinton House was Louisa’s residence since October 2021.

Louisa d’Andelot Rasmussen Nelson was born December 7, 1936 in Milwaukee, WI.  Louisa took classes at the University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Notre Dame, and Sonoma State University in California.  As well as can be recollected, she earned her BA in English Literature and MA in Old English Literature.  She listed ‘student’ as her occupation – she was always desiring to learn.

At her best, Louisa was a very generous person.  In her better years, she used her many creative talents to make crafts for people, with no expectations of ever being compensated – in short, pure, loving generosity.  She was always reading and learning and exploring new hobbies.  Louisa was very independent, never relying on others if she could solve problems by herself.

Her first marriage was to Maynard Cook, her second to Joseph Cahill.  The love of her life was Dr. Thomas Nelson, whom she married in 1980, he preceded her in death October 17, 1998 in Oxford, IN.  Also predeceasing her are parents, Clarence and Anne (Isham) Rasmussen;  sister, Anne (Rasmussen) Groh; 22-month-old son, Hugh Patrick Cahill; two step-children, Ewen and Jane and a step daughter-in-law, Chris Nelson.  Surviving are sons, David (Chen) Cahill, Peter (Lesley-Ann) Cahill, Mark (Sangmi) Cahill, step-son, Andrew Nelson; nieces Sharon (Giovanni) Vocino and Susan Crawford, nephew Joseph Groh; grandchildren Rowena, Rhianna, Fionn, Erin, Lauren, Peter, Ashlyn, Oliver and one step-grand-son, Jason Parkinson.

Visitation will be held from 1-2pm with Louisa’s Celebration of Life Service to follow Sunday December 11, at 2:00 p.m. at Fowler United Methodist Church, 908 E 12th Street, Fowler, IN and interment to follow at Fowler Cemetery with Reverend Mary van Wijk, officiating.  Arrangements entrusted to Gerts, Windler & Keller Funeral Homes ~ Fowler Chapel.  Gerts, Windler & Keller Funeral Homes ~ Fowler Chapel, 506 E.
