Marcia Ann “Becky” Wikle Lyons passed away peacefully early on January 28, 2024 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus, West Lafayette, Indiana. She was born on March 1, 1943 in Flora, Indiana to Florence (Kerlin) and Todd Wikle. In 1961, She graduated from Brook High School, and on August 13 of that year married Lawrence “Larry” Lyons. Becky devoted her life to helping others. She started by proofreading for spelling errors and typing every single one of Larry ‘s papers as he earned his Masters Degree in Education at Purdue. She was the only one in our family who could spell! As a coach’s wife, she chaperoned fan buses, cooked meals for Larry’s teams, and faithfully cheered on every team at every game. That support led to faithfully sitting at many a baseball game, wrestling match, play, and choir performance for Terry and Lana. She belonged to several Home Extension Clubs while living in Tippecanoe County. For many years, Becky was a reading tutor at Mintoney Elementary School, and her duties included recess duty. She was a benchmark for all kids returning in August to see if they had finally grown taller than the small but mighty 4’ 9 ½" Mrs. Lyons. She was known for her excellent cooking, winning several awards at the Tippecanoe County Fair Open Show. Her pies, cookies, deviled eggs, cocoa, and chicken and noodles were crowd and family favorites. She was also a gifted seamstress and crafter. New babies in the family and her community received crocheted baby blankets, and she also made countless lap blankets and teddy bears to give to those in need. Becky shared her time with many organizations including the Newton County Historical Society, Brook Alumni Association, Brook United Methodist Church, Brook Library Board, and the Wash-O-Quois Museum. In 2008, she was awarded Brook Citizen of the Year for outstanding Community Service. With Larry, Becky traveled to 49 of 50 states, England, and France, and she avidly journaled about each trip. Writing was yet another passion of hers, authoring several stories for the Newton County Historical society, and passing along her love of journaling by starting a Family Christmas Journal that is passed around every year for family to write down memories made in the past year. Becky also loved to fish and traveled for many years to Minnesota to McArdle's Resort on Lake Winnibigoshish with extended family and friends. Becky is survived by her husband, Larry Lyons, her daughter, Lana (Steve) Wallpe, and son, Terry (Sandra) Lyons, grandchildren Lt. Col Joshua Lyons,
Isaiah Lyons, Amanda (Arik) Pynaert, Kendal Wallpe, and Hannah Wallpe. She also leaves behind two great grandchildren, Maximus and Lincoln Pynaert. While Becky was an only child, she married the youngest of nine Lyons children and became an instant “Aunt Becky” to 14 nieces a nd nephews, which led to being a great, great-great, and great-great-great aunt to many more.
