Richard Hurst Fisher, 72, of Lafayette and formerly of Boswell, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2024. He was born May 24, 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana to Richard (Dick) and Martha Hurst Fisher. Rick was raised on the family farm and an active 10-year 4-H and FFA member. He graduated from Benton Central High School in 1970 and married Nona Sharp in 1971.
Rick was a certified welder and a metal fabricator. He worked as a maintenance supervisor at Harrison Steel for many years. He retired from LAMMCO in Lafayette due to ill health.
Rick served in church from cleaning the toilets to lay pastor, even getting to baptize three of his kids. He also served the Lord as a Royal Rangers leader in kids’ ministry at Bethel Christian Life, now Connection Point, in West Lafayette.
Rick coached Pee Wee baseball in Boswell for several years and was only thrown out of a game once for kicking dirt on the umpire’s feet. Rick also served on the Benton Community School Board for 12 years.
Rick loved camping and hunting with his sons and friends and making chili over the open fire.
After his retirement, he built a tear drop trailer from plans he found in an old 1930s Popular Mechanics magazine. He and Nona pulled it all over the eastern half of the United States.
Rick spent endless hours with grandkids; helping them with school projects, cheering them on at sports events, and helping them farm. In retirement he took up beekeeping and loved sharing his trade with grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his wife, Nona Sharp Fisher; his children, Joshua (Mandy) Fisher, Benjamin (Laura) Fisher, Miriam (Justin) Snider, Seth Fisher, Joseph (Leslie) Fisher, 12 Grandchildren, 1 Great Granddaughter, sisters; Ruth (Dick) Brown, & Rheta (Steve) Krick.
