Rose Ellen Vanderwall

Rose E. (Haas) Vanderwall, 81, of Fowler passed away July 18, 2024, at Franciscan Health-Indianapolis. She was born December 9, 1942, to the late Virgil “Bogie” and Agnes (Glotzbach) Haas.

Rose spent her childhood in Raub, was a graduate of Raub High School, Class of 1961, and spoke fondly of her time there. She married Dennis Vanderwall in November 1961 and later divorced. She is survived by their four children: Kenneth (Jan) Vanderwall of Kentland, Denise (Javier) Nava of Rensselaer, Jennifer Simpson (companion Dave A.) of Sheldon, IL and Joel (Katherine) Vanderwall of Lafayette, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Rose is also survived by her long-time companion, Stanley Rider and her siblings, Jane Pilkington of Raub and Mark (Mary) Haas of Westampton Township, New Jersey.

Rose was a tireless worker, first as a homemaker but also as a secretary, grain elevator attendant, store clerk, salesclerk, apartment manager, EMT and a postal route driver. She enjoyed sewing and loved creating original pieces for her children, grandchildren and dolls. She was an avid Barbie collector and enjoyed all things of the paranormal. Rose was active in the Raub High School Alumni and enjoyed the activities and the camaraderie through the York Township Public Library. Until a stroke took her ability to sing, Rose was a long-time member of the Benton County Chorus. Since 2020, Rose has been serving as the President of the Benton County Historical Society.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (EST), Monday, July 22, 2024, at the funeral home. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM (EST), Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the funeral home chapel with burial immediately following in Fowler Cemetery with Fr. Sean Aaron officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benton County Historical Society (PO Box 341, Fowler, Indiana 47944) or the York Township Public Library (8908 W. 845 N. Earl Park, Indiana 47942).
