Roy Allen Kindig , 81, of Brook, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025, at Franciscan Hospital in Crown Point with his family at his side. He was born on May 3, 1943, in Brook, IN, to Ralph and Fern (Light) Kindig. Roy graduated from Brook High School in 1961 and attended a Purdue agriculture short course. He married his high school sweetheart, Ardis Whaley, on August 2, 1964, and together, they began their farming career in Newton County. Roy served in the Indiana National Guard from 1960 to 1964, but farming was his affinity and his lifelong goal. He was a member of the Brook United Methodist Church and also attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Roy loved trains, farming, traveling, church functions, and his morning coffee with local farmer friends. He and Ardis covered many miles on family vacations which brought them great fun and memories. A symphonic music enthusiast, Roy was a member of the community band for twenty-five years, where he and Ardis both played trombone. He enjoyed performances and concerts, and would frequently attend area music events. Farming was his passion, as was his family. Roy is survived by his wife; his sister, Janet (Verle) Whaley of Lafayette; his children - Colleen Culp (Brad) of Rensselaer, Donna Pluimer (David) of Brook, and Ryan Kindig (Jen) also of Brook; his nine grandchildren - Colton Pluimer (Andrea), Bo Culp (Heather), Rhett Pluimer, Bobbie Jo Culp Williams (Mason), Ross Kindig, Brantley Culp, Grace Kindig, Andrew Kindig, and Alex E. Kindig; and three great grandchildren – Brycen Kyburz, Zella Raye Williams, and Emma Culp. Roy joins his parents, sister, Linda, and brother, Wayne, in his eternal home, Heaven.
