Vena Irene (Denney) Lewis

Vena I Lewis, 92, of Fowler, passed away December 28, 2023 at Cumberland Pointe, West Lafayette. She was born February 27, 1931 in Gregory Kentucky to Tolliver and Bessie (Cooper) Denney. She always told us, she fell in love with a blue-eyed sailor, Hershel Lewis. They were married February 2, 1948, until his passing June 20, 1996.

She started her work career at the Fowler IGA in 1956 and worked there many years. She then worked at the Fowler Farm Center/Massey Furgason dealership in Fowler in the late 70’s and worked there until 1988. At that time, she was elected Benton County Treasurer, and held that office for 8 years. She then went on to be elected to the Benton County Council serving many years. She worked part-time at The Farmers and Merchants Bank in Otterbein until she retired.

Vena was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church, Fowler Baptist Church, and Fowler Christian Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star (Oxford and Otterbein) as well as a member of the DAR..

She is survived by a daughter Linda (Mike) Brewer, two grandchildren Michael (Tiffany) Brewer, Cassie (Matthew) Hall, and four great-grandchildren Jack, Logan, Liam, and Owen. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Eugene Denney.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 5-7pm (EST) at Fowler Christian Church.  Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Fowler Christian Church at 11am (EST) with Pastor Kirk Zimmerman officiating.  Procession will follow to Fowler Cemetery for interment.  A meal will be served after at the Fowler Christian Church.
