Wayne Lee Kindig, 68, was called home to his heavenly Father October 29, 2022 with family by his side. He is undoubtedly enjoying his favorite fixings at an all-you-can-eat buffet in celebration of his arrival. Wayne was born February 19, 1954, in Watseka, IL to Ralph and Fern (Light) Kindig. He lived in Brook, IN his entire life. Wayne grew up loving John Deere tractors and farming and was even known as “Kindig Autobody” during his days painting cars at his shop in town.
Wayne married the love of his life, Michelle Thompson, of Morocco, July 8, 1977. She survives. The controversy remains about whether their actual anniversary is on July 7, since that’s when their marriage license was signed.
Wayne was the owner/operator of Lone Tree Transportation for nearly 40 years, hauling eggs for Rose Acre Egg Farms. His deliveries took him all throughout the Midwest and East Coast. He often told stories about the places he had delivered, including backing to a dock down a narrow alley in downtown Manhattan, just blocks from the former site of the World Trade Center.
Wayne is also survived by three daughters, bless his heart. Tonya (Rune) Gusevik of Pensacola, FL; Danielle (Craig) Sands of Brook, IN; and Jaclyn Kindig (s/o Robert) of Brook, IN.
He was the proud grandfather of five grandchildren who also survive. Andreas, Tobias, and Evelynn Gusevik; Marleigh Sands; and Waylyn Kindig. He enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could and admired them dearly. Having all five of them together at once gave him the most joy.
Wayne is also survived by a brother, Roy (Ardis) Kindig of Brook, IN and a sister, Janet (Verle) Whaley of Lafayette, IN. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Linda Kindig.
Wayne lived an incredibly blessed life and did all the things that made him happy. He could often be found in the woods behind his house on his 4020 John Deere knocking down trees for a bonfire or tinkering on projects in his shed. He loved to eat fresh steamed shrimp at The Freezer in Homosassa, FL. He loved crime shows on TV and could likely recite all the lines of NCIS or tell you what would happen next. He loved helping his brother on the farm. Although he spent his life on the road, he also loved to travel and he always enjoyed going to coffee with his friends at the Trail Tree Restaurant.
Wayne will be dearly missed, but memories shared with him will forever be in our hearts.
His final resting place will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Brook, IN. While there will be no immediate services for Wayne, a celebration of life is scheduled to occur at a later date. Memorials may be made in Wayne’s honor to PhysioCare Hospice of West Lafayette, IN.
